Description
The Manor House is an 18th-century farmhouse, with later additions, located on the Green in Freethorpe. It is constructed of red brick, colourwashed, and has a smut pantiled roof. The building has an āLā shape, encompassing two storeys and attics, with a two-storey extension at the rear and single-storey lean-to additions to the east. The west-facing facade features five windows, with a 20th-century, off-centre entrance porch situated towards the southern end. Most windows are sash windows with glazing bars and segmental brick arches. Towards the northern end are 19th and 20th-century casement windows with transoms. A 19th-century slatted four-light dairy window is set into the northern elevation, also with a segmental brick arch. At the rear of the property is an early 18th-century three-light mullion and transom window, featuring a stay bar and an external casement stay for wrought iron. The front features a 19th-century six-panel door with a fanlight containing latticework glazing bars, set within a timber doorcase with panelled reveals, moulded pilasters with diamond pattern stops, and a projecting cornice. The building also includes further 19th and 20th-century sash and casement windows, one of which is an 18th-century three-light window with a wrought-iron casement and original leaded lights. Architectural details include brick dentil eaves, parapet gables, a chimney stack on the west wing, an end stack on the east wing, and axial and end stacks on the south-east wing.
