Description
The dovecote and boundary wall, located approximately 30 meters northeast of Burgh Mill, date from the early 19th century. The structure is built of red brick and features a timber glover supporting a pantile roof. It has a circular shape with an external diameter of about 140 centimeters. The boundary wall is integrated into the dovecote and extends southwest. The short tower is topped with a timber gable glover that is rectangular in plan. A barrel section, likely a former millstone tun, encircles the top of the tower just below the glover to support the brickwork. The glover includes arched flight holes on its two gables. There is a small doorway at the base of the tower, and the interior contains several nesting boxes made from the brickwork. The low boundary wall has a few remaining semicircular coping bricks at the junction with the tower, but the rest of the wall has been raised and extended beyond the dovecote and is not of special architectural interest. This dovecote forms a group with Burgh Mill, located about 30 meters to the south, and The Mill House to the north. It is notable for its unusual small size, shape, and connection to the nearby mill, as it likely incorporates a disused millstone tun.
