Description

Frettenham War Memorial is a stone obelisk located in the churchyard of the Church of St Swithin's, which is listed at Grade II*. It stands at the foot of the church tower, next to the south porch. The memorial features a slender stone obelisk that is square in shape, resting on a tapering four-sided plinth with a three-stepped base below. The south face of the plinth has inscriptions in incised lettering. A small metal plaque on the west face of the plinth lists names from the First World War and records names from the Second World War.

The main dedicatory inscription reads: "IN MEMORY OF OUR BRAVE DEAD WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 - 1918" followed by ten names. The later plaque lists: "1914 – 1918" with ten names and "1939 – 1945" with three names.
