Description
Horstead Lodge is an 18th-century house that was extended in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of colourwashed brick and gault brick, topped with a slate roof. The building has an irregular 'L' shaped plan and consists of two storeys. The principal facade, facing south, features three bays, with the outer bays slightly projecting. At the center, there is an aedicule with paired Roman Ionic columns that support the entablature. The central entrance includes a part-glazed two-leaf door framed by an eared architrave. The outer ground floor sash windows have glazing bars, brick reveals, and semi-circular gauged brick arches, while the first-floor sash windows also have glazing bars and flat gauged brick arches. The eaves are wide and bracketed, and the roof is hipped. To the north, there is a wing that may date from the 18th century, which has three windows and a central half-glazed porch with panelled pilasters, a shallow cornice, and a pediment. The sash windows in this wing also feature glazing bars.
