Description
Southwood Hall is a farmhouse located in Cantley, dating from the early 18th century, with a 17th-century core and 19th-century refacing and additions. The building is constructed of colourwashed brick and features a slate roof. It has an 'L'-shaped plan and is two storeys high, with the 19th-century northwest extension being slightly lower.
The entrance facade has three windows and includes a 19th-century part-glazed six-panel entrance door, framed by a timber doorcase with panelled reveals, roll moulded pilasters, patera stops, and a cornice. The fanlight above the door has lattice pattern glazing bars. There is a blank window at first floor level on the northwest side. The sash windows are adorned with timber architraves, glazing bars, and flat gauged brick arches. The northwest corner of the building features rusticated quoins.
The southeastern wing contains fabric from the 17th century, with scattered fenestration that is mostly from the 20th century, but includes a circa 1700 cross window at first floor level. The gable and the southwestern wall incorporate flint with brick quoins. The 19th-century northwest extension has three windows, with sashes on the first floor and casements on the ground floor. The gables have parapets with brick kneelers.
