Description
Ivy House is a building that has been converted into solicitors' offices and a shop. It dates from the 18th century and features a red brick exterior that has been colourwashed and rough cast, topped with a black pantile roof. The structure has an 'L'-shaped plan and consists of two storeys and an attic facing the market place, while it rises to three storeys at the rear.
The front facade has three windows and a central late 19th-century brick porch that includes a six-panel door and a battlemented top. There is an early 20th-century shop front with double doors and a window that has glazing bars, along with a moulded timber cornice. On the first floor, there is a central blind window. The windows throughout the building are sashes with glazing bars and are topped with segmental brick arches. The corners of the building are accentuated with rusticated quoins.
At the rear, there is a wing that features 19th-century sash windows. The market place side has parapet gables with end stacks, and there is a segmental top dormer that contains a 19th-century casement window. Additionally, there is an attached gault brick wall with stone coping, wrought iron railings, and a gate adorned with finials. The building is included for its group value.
