Description
Iona House is a mid-19th century terraced house that has been converted into two shops and a flat. The building features colourwashed and rough cast brickwork with a slate roof. It stands 2½ storeys tall facing the market place and includes a hipped, bow fronted extension. At the rear, there is a basement storey and a lean-to extension.
The market place facade has a double bow fronted shop front with central double doors and pilasters flanking the windows, which have glazing bars. Above this, there is 20th century tile hanging and 20th century sash windows. To the right, there is a six-panel door with timber moulded pilasters, patera stops, and a projecting cornice. The building also features 19th century sash windows with glazing bars. A 20th century shop extension is located at the far right and has a flat roof. The rear of the building has scattered 20th century fenestration, including three gabled dormers. The timber eaves have shaped brackets, and there is an axial stack on the left side. The building is included for its group value.
