Description
13 Market Place is a house and shop built in the mid-19th century, with later alterations from the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is made of rendered and colour-washed brick, designed to imitate ashlar, and has a pantile roof.
It has a U-shaped plan, with the main section facing Market Place in a north to south direction, and two gabled cross wings at the rear. The exterior features three storeys and two bays. The ground floor includes a late 20th-century shop front with a central glazed door flanked by plate glass windows, which are divided into six lights by horizontal and vertical glazing bars. To the left of the shop front, there is a six-panelled door set within a plain pilastered doorcase, topped with a plain entablature and fanlight. On the first floor, there are two two-over-two horned sash windows, and on the second floor, there are two two-over-two unhorned sash windows. The right-hand side of the building has an irregular pattern of windows, including two two-over-two horned sashes on the ground floor and a six-over-six horned sash on the first floor.
Inside, the ground floor has been opened up to create a continuous retail space.
