Description

London House is a former house built in the early 18th century, with later rebuilding in the late 19th century and the mid-20th century. It is now used for commercial purposes. The building is constructed of red brick with a red pantile roof, and the south and east walls are roughcast. The rectangular building comprises two parallel ranges and faces west onto Market Place.

It is a two-storey building, facing west with five bays divided into two sections. The double-pile pitched roofs are covered with red pantiles, and the rear (east) range has a central ridge stack. The southern section of the front elevation has two first-floor windows with four-over-four sash windows with horns. The ground floor has large plate-glass windows and a corner entrance bay. The south end of the building features two Dutch gables and a late 19th-century plate-glass shop display window. The northern section of the front elevation has a raised brick parapet, three first-floor window bays containing mid-20th century six-over-six sash windows with horns, and a mid-20th century display window and glazed door at ground floor level. The interior was converted to offices in the mid-20th century and opened out into single spaces.
