Description
15 Market Place is a building likely dating to the early 18th century, which was used as an inn by the late 18th century. It was converted into a dwelling house in the early 20th century and later operated as a restaurant or café from the late 20th century.
The building is constructed of red brick laid in English bond and features a pantiled roof. It has a rectangular plan and is situated in the middle of a range of buildings that face south onto the Market Place.
The exterior of this two-storey, three-bay building includes a pitched roof with internal gable-end chimney stacks on both the east and west sides, along with a dentil eaves cornice. To the left of center is an early 20th-century half-glazed door, and to its right is a small arched window with colored glass in the margin lights. The outer bays are illuminated by three-light 19th-century casements, and the first floor has three three-light, center-opening casements.
Interior photographs taken around 2023 by the Swaffham Cultural Consortium and Swaffham History Group reveal some exposed timber framing.
