Description
This is a range of houses and shops located at 1-9 and 9A Magdalen Street in Thetford, dating from the late 18th century and altered in the late 20th century. The building is constructed from brick and flint with a red brick facade and features a pantile roof. It is two storeys high and consists of four bays. There are four doorways with doorcases that have fluted or roll-moulded pilaster strips and segmental heads, while the doors themselves are from the late 20th century. The front includes two plate-glass shop display windows and, on the far left, an 8/8 sash window under a segmental head. The first floor has four 8/8 sash windows, also under segmental heads, with the leftmost window featuring horns. The building has a dentil eaves cornice and a gabled roof, with an internal gable-end stack on the north-east side. The rear of the building has late 20th-century additions. The interior has been altered to accommodate development as two shops and offices that are integrated with Nos 2-6 Earls Street. There is a late 20th-century communal staircase in Nos 2-6 Earls Street. This building is included for its group value.
