Description
No. 1 Castle Street is a house dating from the 16th century, with 19th-century details. It is timber-framed, plastered, and colourwashed, topped with a pantile roof. The building has two storeys, with the ground floor accessed through a six-panelled and fielded door located to the right, which is sheltered by a sloping hood. To the left of the entrance, there are two sash windows with 6/6 glazing bars. The first floor features a deep coved jetty and one central horned sash window, also with 6/6 glazing bars. The gabled roof has a brick stack on the front slope that has been rebuilt. Originally, this house served as the two-storey service end for Nos. 3 and 5 Castle Street, but the connecting doors have been blocked. The interior has not been inspected.
