Description

The Central Hotel (part) is an early 19th-century public house, extended in the late 19th century and altered in 1991. It is constructed of gault brick, with some red brick and flint detailing, and has slate roofs. The original section has two storeys and four bays, featuring a central six-panelled door framed by unfluted engaged columns that rise to a segmental hood. Ground-floor windows are horned sashes without glazing bars, set within segmental brick arches. The first floor has four six-over-six sashed windows, also with horns, all with gauged skewback arches. The roof is gabled, with an internal gable-end stack to the east and a ridge stack above the entrance. A large three-storey extension was added to the east, incorporating a square carriage arch. This extension features sashes and a first-floor oriel window. Two-storey cross wings are located to the rear, and were altered in 1991. The interior displays chamfered bridging beams with run-out stops, and retains a 19th-century roof.
