Description
The Great Dunham War Memorial is a stone cross dedicated to the memory of those who served in the First World War, with later additions for the Second World War. It is situated in the churchyard of the Church of St Andrew, which is a Grade I listed building. The memorial features a wheel-head cross designed in the Celtic style, adorned with decorative interlace relief carvings on both the cross-head and the shaft. The cross is set on a tapering, two-stage plinth that is square in shape and has a low base. The plinth includes inscriptions dedicating the memorial to the men of Great Dunham who fell in the Great War from 1914 to 1918, as well as a name from 1944, and concludes with the phrase, "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."
