Description

Shropham Hall is a house built between 1685 and 1739, constructed of brick with slate roofs. It has 2½ storeys and features five bays, with the side bays recessed and the center highlighted by giant pilasters at the corners. The early 19th-century porch is made of stuccoed brick and includes a Doric entablature supported by Tuscan columns, topped with a balustrade. The steps leading to the entrance are framed by curved wings. The doorcase has a broken segmental pediment resting on decorated scrolled consoles, with a panelled door beneath a five-vaned fanlight. The sash windows, renewed in the late 18th century, have glazing bars and are set under gauged skewback arches, with most featuring shutters. A string course runs along the second floor. The roof has a shouldered cross gable that creates a half storey, which contains three lower and one upper sash window. The building has symmetrical split panelled stacks. The garden facade is colourwashed and has a similar layout, but the side bays are canted outwards over two storeys, each containing three sash windows per floor. There is blind panelling at the parapet, and a waterhead from 1756. A kitchen extension was added to the west in 1894. The garden wall, which is only on two sides, is made of brick on a plinth, featuring piers topped with pineapple finials.
