Description

Whiteways is an early 19th-century house located on Magdalen Street, Thetford. The building is constructed of random flint and brick, with a rendered and whitewashed facade. It has a pantile roof, with black-glazed tiles to the front. The house is two storeys high and arranged in three bays. A late 19th-century glazed front door is set within a plain doorcase that rises to a moulded pediment. Bowed sash windows with 6/6 glazing bars are positioned on the right and left sides of the front elevation. The first floor contains three 2-light casements. A dentil eaves cornice sits under a gabled roof. Internal gable-end stacks are visible on the right and left. At the rear is a full-width outshut of two storeys, with a catslide roof. This section contains one 6/6 sash window, alongside various 20th-century details. The interior features boxed bridging beams, 20th-century fireplaces, and a stick baluster staircase. The staircase is cleverly fitted into a small stairwell with bowed ends and has a ramped and wreathed handrail.
