Description
Old St Lawrence Church is a derelict church that dates back to the 12th century, with parts of the nave rebuilt in the 14th century. The north aisle was added in the 13th century, and the chancel was built in the 14th century. The early 15th-century tower is battlemented and consists of three stages, featuring a canted west face. The church is constructed from flint-faced rubble with stone dressings. It has two-light trefoil-headed belfry windows and a south porch door with a moulded stone arch. The north windows of the north chapel display decorated tracery. Under the tower, there is a decayed 15th-century tomb chest that features recumbent effigies of a knight and a lady. It is said that the church was partly demolished by Sir Lyonel Lyde.
