Description

This building is a cottage located immediately west of the Brocket Arms public house in Ayot St Lawrence. It dates from the early 17th century and features a timber frame with a painted brick ground floor and infill on the upper floor. The roof is covered with old tiles. The cottage has two windows on the ground floor, which are leaded casements, and the first floor has casements with glazing bars. To the west, there is a lower painted brick extension, and there is also a lower single-storey weatherboarded shed attached to the cottage. This location is notable as the scene of George Bernard Shaw's one-act play "A Village Wooing."
