Description
Shaw's Corner is a house built between 1901 and 1904 as the New Rectory, designed by Smee, Mence and Houchin. In 1906, it was rented to the playwright George Bernard Shaw, and from 1915, it became known as Shaw's Corner. Shaw purchased the house in 1920, and it served as his family home until his death in 1950.
The house is constructed of mauve brick with red brick dressings and features a gabled old tile roof. It has two storeys and attics, with two parapeted gables, the eastern one being larger, and four segmental-headed casement windows. The broad tapering chimney stacks add to its character. The interior retains its original decoration and furniture, including numerous pictures and objects related to Shaw and his work.
