Description
The Grange is a house that was once a convent, featuring a mid-18th century refurbishment of a 17th century or earlier timber-framed structure. Around 1960, a red brick front in Georgian style replaced the original elevation. The building has a triple-pile machine tile mansard roof with a parapet and five segmental headed flush sash windows. The entrance features a Doric style doorcase. The south elevation is roughcast, with a two-storey Regency bow on the west side that is weatherboarded. Inside, there is a richly decorated Ionic style entrance hall with modillions and pilasters that lead to a rear central staircase hall, which has three iron twist balusters on each tread. A Venetian window with detached Doric columns is located on the first floor landing, and the original front door has eight small fielded panels. There are plain two-storey extensions on the right side, with one and two windows, set back from the front.
