Description
Chace House is a former public house that has been converted into a house. It dates from the early to mid 18th century and was altered and extended in the mid 19th century and around 1900. The building is constructed of brick with pebbledash and features a slate and tile mansard roof. It has two storeys and an attic, with three windows across the front. The entrance is located on the left and includes a rectangular fanlight with flanking ground floor bay windows. There is a false central entrance, and the ground floor and first floor have sash windows. A timber cornice runs along the top, and there are two dormers in the roof. The left end has a stack, while a larger stack is situated at the rear right. There is a rectangular bay extension from around 1900 on the left end and a canted bay on the right end. At the rear right, there is a wing with a hipped roof. Inside, some original timbers can be found in the kitchen and cellars, where there is also a well. The property includes stable and brewery outbuildings, maintaining an open courtyard arrangement typical of a coaching inn.
