Description
This large barn, dating from the 17th or 18th century, is located about 15 meters east of Bourzuei on Bedmond Road in Abbots Langley. It features a timber frame resting on a brick base and is weatherboarded with a tiled roof. The barn consists of seven bays and has a central vehicular entrance that is separate from the house. The flanking bays include boarded openings and inserted windows. There is also a lean-to addition with a slate roof facing the house, which has various door and window openings.
At the center of the ridge, there is a timber clock tower, likely from the 18th or 19th century, which has a panelled base and an open top crowned with a coved pyramidal tiled spirelet that features pendant drops. Inside, the barn showcases arched braces connecting jowled posts to cambered tie beams, queen struts that clasp purlins, and curved windbraces, along with braces in the walling.
