Description

Bourzuei is a house located on Bedmond Road in Abbots Langley. It dates from the early 18th century and features a 16th-century cross wing. The building has been altered and extended in the 19th and 20th centuries. Part of it is timber framed and has been cased and extended in whitewashed brick, with some areas featuring weatherboarding. The roof is tiled.

The earlier cross wing is positioned at right angles to the main range and the house is two storeys high. The early 18th-century front facing the yard has three bays, with a central entrance that is set in a later gabled porch. Flanking this are 20th-century rectangular bays, while the first floor has two-light flush frame timber casements. The eaves are dentilled brick.

To the right, there is a one-bay 19th-century addition that has a lower ridge. At the rear left, the cross wing has a separate, taller ridge and is brick cased, featuring single and two-light casements. The front gable is weatherboarded and originally had an external stack with a large base and three shafts, with the outer shafts set diagonally. The rear gable end has an entrance with a cambered head and two-light casements, along with a weatherboarded gable.

Inside, there is a 19th-century block at the inside angle of the L-shape, which has a lower ridge parallel to the front range and features three-light casements and a gable end stack. The interior has not been inspected. The house was formerly known as Rose Acre Farm House.
