Description
The London Coal Duty Marker, located on the towing path about 10 metres southeast of Stocker's House, is a cast-iron square pier that stands one and a half metres high and was created in 1861 by H. Grissell at the Regents Canal Ironworks. The marker features chamfered corners and a pyramid cap, and it is painted white. The necking of the pier displays the City of London crest, while raised lettering on the front face of the shaft reads '24 and 25 Vict/Cap 42', although this is nearly obscured. This marker was placed outside the house of the Collector of the Coal Duties on the Grand Junction Canal and is included for its group value with Stocker's House.
