Description
The Hour House is an early to mid-18th century house, now used as offices, located on the north side of High Street, Rickmansworth. The building is constructed of red brick, with some timber framing visible at the rear. It has a tiled roof. The front elevation has three bays. The central entrance is framed by a brick arch with a moulded architrave surrounding the door. Flanking the entrance are ground-floor windows with 16 panes, set within reveals and topped with flat arches. A central, blind window with a sundial is located on the first floor, flanked by further 16-pane sash windows with slightly cambered heads. A brick stack, projecting from the right gable end, features a single offset and a blocked window facing the front. A wing extends to the rear on the left side, notable for a large stack and exposed timber framing on the first floor, with whitewashed brickwork on the ground floor. The rear wing also has 20th-century casement windows and a broad gable. The roof has clasped purlins. A later two-storey gabled wing is attached to the rear right. The interior has not been inspected.
