Description

The Whip and Collar Public House is a public house that dates from the late 16th century or 17th century, with later cased and extended features from the 18th century. It has undergone alterations and extensions in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building has a timber frame that is cased in brick and roughcast, with some tile hanging and weatherboarding, topped by tiled roofs.

The original structure consists of a two-bay, two-storey block on the left side. The entrance is located to the right within a projecting 20th-century porch. There are two ground floor two-light casements and three first floor three-light casements, all featuring cambered heads and boxed eaves. The left end gable is tile-hung. To the right, there is a three-bay, one-storey block from the 18th century, which has two and three-light casements and a ridge stack, with the right end gable weatherboarded.

At the rear right of the main block, there is a two-storey wing with a hipped roof that may be original, along with further hipped and lean-to projections. Inside, the building features curved braces, jowled posts, cambered tie beams, queen struts to collars clasping purlins, and curved windbraces.
