Description

Little Tolpits Cottage is a house dating from the mid to late 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is partly timber-framed, with a brick ground floor and nogging, and partly rendered and weatherboarded. It has a tiled roof. The cottage presents as a three-bay lobby-entry plan. The front facade features a central entrance with a later gabled hood, a small window to the left, and 20th-century two-light casements. The rendered front is scored to imitate ashlar. A slack is visible behind the ridge. The left end wall is original 17th-century brick. Two 19th-century three-light windows with iron Gothic glazing bars are present. A blocked two-light window with a chamfered brick mullion and surround is located on the ground floor towards the rear. A weatherboarded gable and a lean-to addition are at the right end. On the rear, the first floor reveals studs with brick nogging. A weatherboarded lean-to extends out the rear left. The interior has not been inspected.
