Description
The statue located about 290 meters southeast of Moor Park is a notable feature in the Old Pleasure Grounds, which were designed by Capability Brown around 1755 to 1760. This statue, which serves to close the vista to the southeast of Moor Park, depicts an antique female figure holding a book, showcasing Hellenistic drapery and hairstyle. It stands on an early 19th-century ashlar pedestal that has a moulded plinth and cornice, with moulded panels on each face. The statue is included for its group value, alongside the steps, walls, and gates in the area.
