Description
The stable range located to the south of Harperbury Hospital is a rectangular building constructed in the late 19th century to early 20th century, designed in the Arts and Crafts style. Its exterior features roughcast walls and graduated slate roofs, which are half-hipped at the end bays. The entrance is marked by a pyramidal roof topped with a finial. The building has overhanging eaves with projecting rafters and cast iron gutters supported by large curved brackets.
This single-storey structure has a symmetrical entrance range, highlighted by a wide, round-arched entrance flanked by bays of small-pane windows with red-tiled ledges, separated by battered buttresses. To the left of the entrance, there is a door. The slightly projecting end bays also feature similar windows set under relieving arches. The returns of the building maintain the same style, showcasing slate-clad hay-lofts and gabled louvres. The courtyard facades are made of pale yellow stock brick, accented with red brick dressing around the cambered arch stable doors that have strap hinges. The roofs include louvres, and the stable interiors are constructed of brick with timber-lined roofs.
