Description

Kitchener's Meads is a range of late 18th-century buildings situated on the south side of Fishpool Street. The building is divided into a five-bay left-hand section and a two-bay right-hand section. The left-hand section has a high-pitched tiled roof, while the right-hand section has a lower-pitched tiled roof. A moulded wooden eaves cornice runs along the top of the building. The facades are red brick with a rendered plinth. The first-floor windows are sash windows, with one light or three lights, set in near-flush moulded frames. The ground-floor windows are three-light sashes in flush, box frames, each set beneath a gauged segmental brick arch. All windows have glazing bars, and their arrangement is irregular.

Number 57 has a door on the left side of the range. The doorcase features fluted, Doric pilasters, an entablature with a triglyph frieze and cornice hood. The door itself is made of six flat panels. At the rear of the building is a 17th-century section, which includes a first-floor room with a ceiling decorated with raised floral borders in geometric patterns. Number 59 has a door positioned under the third window from the left. The door is topped with a pediment that has modillions and dentils, and a similarly ornamented cornice, plain frieze, architrave, and flat pilasters. The door is composed of four fielded panels and two flat panels, set in a deep, plain reveal. Number 61 features a reproduction Georgian door and doorcase in the second bay from the right. A tall, hipped-roof rear extension from the 17th century rises above the roof of Number 57.

Numbers 51 to 61 (odd) are designated as a group.
