Description

78 and 80 Fishpool Street comprise an early 18th century house, originally a single dwelling, now divided into two separate properties. The building is two storeys high with a five-window facade. It is constructed of red brick with a decorative pattern of blue headers. A deep eaves cornice, featuring modillion detailing, runs beneath the hipped roof, which has been renewed with tiles on the front face, though slate remains on the rear. The windows are replacement sashes set in near-flush, moulded frames, and those on the ground floor are set beneath gauged, segmental brick arches. A stone staircase with a modillioned cornice hood leads to the main entrance, while there is a further entrance on the west side of the building. Tall chimney stacks retain some original brickwork, and a brick plinth is present at ground level.
