Description
Nos 1-5 on High Street is a house dating from the mid to late 18th century, with late 19th century shop frontages. It is constructed of red brick, with colour-washed plaster on the ground floor. The building features a plain tile mansard roof that is parapeted at the front and sides. It has two storeys and attics, with five flush sash windows that have flat gauged brick lintels; the left two windows do not have glazing bars. The ground floor includes a central 18th century door that has two fielded panels and two flush panels, framed with a moulded surround. Flanking the door are wooden pilasters with shaped consoles, and there is a moulded pediment hood above, along with a plain rectangular fan. On either side of the door are shop fronts with canted recesses at each end. The attic features two original boxed sash dormers. The southeast elevation is rendered in cement.
