Description

The London coal duty marker, located on the south side of the road near Telford's Bridge, was erected between 1861 and 1862 to indicate the limit of coal duty in the London area. This cast iron post is painted white and stands normally at one and a half metres high, although it is partly sunk into the ground. It has a square plan with chamfered corners, and roll mouldings form its capital. The front face features the City of London arms and a panel inscribed with 'Act 24 & 25 Vict Cap 42'. The marker was cast by Henry Grissell iron works, located at Regents Canal in London.
