Description

Telford's Bridge is a bridge, said to be built in 1774, although it is apparently not designed by Thomas Telford. The bridge features a red brick construction with some stone dressings. It has seven tunnel arches that become progressively larger towards the center. The arch piers are supported by battered brick plinths that curve beneath the arches in segmental-shaped channels. The outermost piers on each side of the bridge have wedge-shaped cutwaters, and all piers on the south side have stone-dressed bases. In the mid-20th century, parapets and railings were added, along with square buttresses to some of the arch piers.
