Description

The war memorial plaque, unveiled in 1920 by Bishop of St Albans, Dr. Michael Furse, is attached to the front wall of the dwelling at 11 Pageant Road. It features a simple inscribed stone tablet with a wood and bronze crucifix above a shallow hood. The plaque lists the names of nine individuals who lost their lives in the First World War, inscribed as follows: ‘1914 1918/JAMES CONSTABLE/GEORGE DRAPER/JOHN FRANCIS /PERCY JEFFRIES/ERNEST LEWIS/FREDERICK MERRYDALE/ EDWARD PERHAM/ALBERT STONE/ERNEST TODD/RIP’.
