Description

Waxhouse Gate is a historic structure located on the south side of High Street, dating back to its original purpose of providing access from the town to the Abbey. It remains as an open passage through the ground floor of No 15 High Street. At each end of the passage, there are 18th-century round stone archways, although the springing stones of earlier pointed arches can still be seen beneath these later additions.
