Description
No 14 on High Street is a timber-framed house dating from around 1600, featuring two storeys and an attic. It has one window beneath a steep gable adorned with carved bargeboards and a plastered front. The attic storey overhangs and is supported by a carved beam, featuring an early 19th-century sash window with glazing bars set in a slightly projecting, segment-headed box frame. The first-floor window is a modern casement, while the ground floor has a modern shop front that is unobtrusive. Inside, the house showcases very heavy exposed posts and beams, including tie beams at either end of the first floor. There is an early 17th-century rectangular well staircase with very heavy turned balusters, a square handrail, and a moulded string. The interior also includes two panelled Dutch doors with original hinges and latches, and heavy exposed rafters on the second floor. At the rear, there is a weatherboarded extension with a hipped gable. No 14 is part of a group with Nos 14 to 18 (even).
