Description

This is a pair of houses located on the west side of High Street, Redbourn. They date from the early 19th century, but incorporate elements of an earlier timber-framed house, possibly from the 17th or earlier. The front of the building is constructed of red brick with a slate roof. The north gable end is plastered and features a mock timber-frame design. The houses are two storeys high, with evenly spaced flush sash windows, each with reeded frames and rams-head paterae. The windows have gauged brick lintels. The front doors are reeded-panelled, also with reeded frames, and feature paterae to the triglyphs of the frieze. They are topped with cornice hoods featuring beaded mutules. An external brick stack on the north gable is partly from the 16th or 17th century. A rear projection incorporates a 17th-century lateral stack. The interior retains exposed beams.
