Description
Nos 16, 16A, and 18 High Street is a pair of houses and a shop, originally built in the 16th century or earlier, with alterations made in the late 17th century. The building was refronted in the early and late 19th century, and there is a late 19th-century shop extension on the north side. The structure is made of painted brick and has a plain tile roof. It features a five-window frontage, with the two windows on the left being early 19th-century sashes with flat gauged lintels and dentilled brick eaves. The two windows on the right are late 19th-century sashes set in segmental heads. In the center, there is a wide double door. The shop on the north side has a slate roof and stucco lintels, with a recessed curved brick angle and a three-window return elevation facing Fish Street. Inside No 16, there is a 16th-century cross wing on the north side with a moulded floor beam, while the two southern bays are of late 17th-century construction. The rear elevation displays heavy early framing.
