Description

Down Green House is a 17th-century timber-framed house that has been cased in the early to mid-19th century with diagonal combed pargetting. It features a plain tile roof and has a 19th-century gable end on the east side, while the west side includes a 18th-century rear wing. The house is two storeys high and has a three-to-one arrangement of cast iron casements, with the earlier windows being two-light in pegged wood frames. A broad ridge stack made of 18th-century brick is located over the door. Internally, the stack was altered in the early 20th century to create a passage. Each side of the house has one bay with exposed chamfered beams, and the 18th-century bay includes a flush beam and joists that support plaster ceilings.
