Description
The barn at Beaumont Hall Farm, located 100 metres west-southwest of the farmhouse, is a two-bay fragment of a late 15th century or early 16th century aisled barn. It features a timber frame with modern weatherboarding and a machine tile roof that has a steep-pitched mansard shape. Attached to the south wall of the barn is a 17th century red brick garden wall, which continues for 15 metres along the east side.
The barn's structure includes principal and intermediate trusses of different types. The principal trusses, located at the ends and centre, have jowled posts that are connected by horizontal ties to the wall posts. Long curved passing braces extend from the wall posts to the main tie beams, with additional curved braces linking the tie beams to the wall plates. The intermediate bays are supported by base crucks that rise from the lower part of the wall posts to the wall plates, lacking tie beams. The western wall has wooden posts embedded from the remaining section of the barn. Originally, the barn appears to have consisted of five bays.
