Description

19-21 Royal Oak Lane is a house that has been divided into two separate homes. It dates from the 17th century or earlier, with a northern extension added in the 18th century and a northwest rear wing from the 19th century. The building features a timber frame that is roughcast lined to resemble ashlar, with plastered brick on the lower part of the northern extension. The northwest wing is dark weatherboarded above a roughcast ground floor. The roofs are steep and covered with old red tiles, featuring a half-hip at the northern end.

The structure is L-shaped and has two stories, facing west. The southern crosswing projects slightly at the front, while there is a two-story extension to the north and northwest. A large internal chimney from the 17th century is located at the junction with the crosswing, rising on the front slope and featuring a recessed panel at the base with ovolo moulded capping, which was heightened in the 19th century.

The southern wing, known as No. 19, has a two-light casement window on each floor and a door on the left-hand side. This door is a four-panel flush beaded type with a dripboard above, leading to a two-light flush casement window. The first floor of No. 21 features a flush-box sash window with eight panes over an adjacent two-light casement window on the ground floor, positioned to the left of a four-panel flush-beaded door within a trellis porch. There is also a canted bay window on the northern extension, which has a step at the ridge and eaves.
