Description

Forge Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century, which has been altered in the 18th and 19th centuries. It features a timber frame that is cased in red brick and has a steep old red tile roof. The building is rectangular and has two storeys, facing south with its gable end towards the lane. There is a noticeable change in alignment of the south wall a third of the way from the west end, where a large internal axial chimney rises from the roof along the north side of the ridge, topped with three diagonally set square shafts. The west gable includes a recessed two-light casement window on each floor, both set under segmental arches. The house also has a moulded bargeboard and shows evidence of a side-purlin roof.
