Description
The Cottage is an early 18th-century house located in Kings Walden. It features a timber frame that is roughcast, with brick casing at the southern end. The building has a very steep old red tile roof and is small, consisting of two storeys and attics, arranged in a two-cell layout with end chimneys and a central entrance facing west. There is a 20th-century lean-to extension at the northern end. Originally, only the southern rooms were heated. The west front has a stucco plinth, with the ground floor cased in red brick arranged in a chequered pattern with black bricks, while the upper parts are roughcast. The roof slope has two gabled dormers, each with two-light casements. There are two casement windows on each floor, with configurations of two and three lights, along with the central entrance. A large projecting external chimney is located at the original southern gable, and there is a 19th-century internal chimney at the northern gable.
