Description

The icehouse at Princess Helena College, Temple Dinsley, dates from the 18th century. It is constructed of red brick with some blue bricks. The structure features a deep, large conical well with a domed cap, which is buried under an earth mound. Access to the icehouse is via a low, segmental vaulted narrow passage that is approximately 4 meters long and about 1.5 meters below ground level. The passage has been affected by tree roots, causing it to be crushed inwards, and it is unroofed at its outer end. There is a wooden crosspiece for a former door located halfway along the passage.
