Description

These are a pair of late 18th-century brick houses located at 15 and 17 Tilehouse Street. They have a steep, half-hipped tile roof with three square dormers. The upper floor has six windows with wide frames that sit almost flush with the wall; the ground floor windows have plain reveals, large panes, and glazing divisions dating from around 1830.

The houses are distinguished by three identical carved wooden doorcases, each positioned at the top of a pair of stone steps. Each doorcase features plain pilasters, 'hexglyphs' below flattened paterae, a compressed ball and reed cornice, a flat moulded hood, fielded panels in the soffit, and upper fielded panels in the reveals. The doors themselves have four fielded panels in the upper half, topped by oblong fanlights designed in a late Adam style.
