Description

The barns at Glebe House, located in Old Knebworth, consist of a range of three structures, with the largest dating from the early 17th century and the other two from the mid-19th century. The largest barn, which faces the road, is weatherboarded, while the side facing the house is constructed of flint with red brick dressings. The other two barns are also made of flint and red brick. The roofs are covered with plain tiles and slate, with the larger barn featuring a half-hipped roof. This barn includes four to five timber frame bays, a queen strut roof, curved tie braces, and straight wind braces. At the northeast end, there is a 19th-century partition wall that creates internal accommodation, which features a gabled dormer and a two-light casement window of the same period. To the right of this, there is one window bay with a gabled attic. The two smaller barns have stabling on the ground floor and are single-storey structures, with some glazing bar casements and plank doors.
