Description
The bridge over the River Mimram, located in Hoo Park on East Drive, was built around 1764 by Sir William Chambers for Thomas Brand. It is constructed of Portland stone with a red brick core and features a single-span round arched design that carries East Drive over the river. The roadway has a hump, but the bridge's parapets rise to a horizontal main section. It includes a continuous deep moulded archivolt, V-jointed rustication, and a giant projecting keystone. The parapet has an ovolo bedmould. The bridge originally had turned balusters and dies on a moulded base with a moulded rail, although the balustrade is largely collapsed. The bridge is also a Scheduled Ancient Monument, designated as Herts No. 73.
