Description
Hoo Farmhouse is a house dating from the late 17th century, with outhouses at the rear that connect to an early 19th-century dairy. It is constructed of red brick with some black headers in a Flemish bond pattern and features a steep old red tile roof that extends over an integral outshut at the back. The house is two stories tall with attics and faces east, adjacent to a 3-meter high common north wall of two contemporary walled gardens to the south.
The building has a plinth, a plat-band, and a corbelled eaves course with projecting headers. The symmetrical front has three windows, each with 2-light lattice casement windows set in heavy frames. The central door, accessed by four stone steps, features a heavy moulded oak frame with a double ovolo design. A similar moulding is found on the plank door, which has a lozenge pattern of applied battens. There is a cast iron gate with steps leading to a side passage at the northeast corner. The farmhouse has two large chimneys on the rear roofslope and a plank door to the rear also in a heavy moulded frame. The dairy includes a large round-headed window on the north side.
