Description

Number 18, known as Mill House, is a miller's house with a dam wall, wheelpit, and an iron water wheel from a now-demolished mill. It dates back to the 18th century, with 'WC 1736' inscribed in the brick on the front. The house has been renovated and extended at the rear in the 19th century. The attached mill was in operation until around 1920 and was demolished around 1970. The building is constructed of dark red brick, with some blue bricks and light red dressings, and features a steep old red tile roof with a moulded wooden eaves cornice.

The house is two stories with attics and faces south, featuring later parallel rear ranges and a short extension to the west. The original structure has a two-cell layout with a central entrance and end chimneys. The staircase was moved to a larger 19th-century wing at the rear. The south front has three gabled dormers with cusped bargeboards and an eaves cornice. There are three windows on the first floor, which are flush box sashes with two panes each, along with a plat-band. The entrance features a six-panel fielded door set back in a doorcase with plain pilasters and a full entablature. To the right, there is a canted bay window, and to the left, a sash window with a flat gauged arch. The east gable chimney projects and has plat bands at both the floor and eaves levels. A brick revetment wall retains water on the west side, while the brick wheelpit houses a two-meter-wide iron waterwheel mounted on a thick iron shaft.
